Handmade Policy

Handmade is what Saponato is all about. Read below regarding your obligations as a handmade seller and what is and is not considered “handmade.”

This policy is part of our Terms of Use. By listing handmade items for sale on the Saponato site, you are agreeing to this policy and our Terms of Use.

  1. What is a Handmade Item and the selling thereof
  2. Using Production Assistance
  3. The Transparency of Your Business

1. What is a Handmade Item and the selling thereof

Saponato is designed with the maker in mind. A maker is a seller who physically makes the items listed for sale in their Saponato shop with their hands (or tools). A maker might create their own recipes, or they might follow an existing recipe. Regardless, makers must create the final item with their own hands (or tools). Melt and pour pre-made items are NOT considered handmade and should not be listed as an item in your Saponato shop.

2. Using Production Assistance

While all items in your Saponato shop must be handmade that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. Items are still considered handmade if you have other people working with you. These Production Assistances can be full or part time employees or individuals who work on an “as needed” basis. However, these Production Assistances must work for you at your facility. “Farming” the work out to another business or individual, who does not work at your facility or is another business entity is not considered Production Assistance and such items would not be considered handmade by the seller and should not be included in your Saponato shop.

3. The Transparency of Your Business

We at Saponato value transparency. Transparency means that you are accurately and honestly depict yourself, your business and your items. As a handmade seller, you agree to:

  1. Use your own words and photographs, professional photographic work, providing it is not a stock photograph is acceptable, in describing your shop items;
  2. Agree that all items meet the standards as described above; and
  3. Provide, if asked, in a timely manner, information regarding the manufacturing of a given item(s), including ingredients (a recipe is not needed only the ingredient list) and the method of production of the item.

KEEP IN MIND: Saponato is a marketplace built on trust. Providing inaccurate, misleading, false, or deceptive information is prohibited by our Terms of Use. If you are not open and honest with us, we may suspend or terminate your account and shop within Saponato.
